SBC INSTITUTIONAL FINANCIAL AID

AMERICAN INDIAN COLLEGE FUND. SBC receives financial assistance from the American Indian College Fund (A*CF) to help with scholarships and grants to students attending Sitting Bull College. SBC provides the following scholarships with funds it receives from American Indian College Fund.

* College Assistance Grant (SBCCAG). Grants shall be provided to Native American students who do not have sufficient funds to pay the direct education costs of tuition, books, and fees to attend SBC. Eligibility criteria may be any of the following:
o Student is in default on a federal education loan
o Student owes a refund/repayment on a federal education grant
o Student's family income excludes him/her from Pell grant eligibility
o Student has not earned his/her GED certificate
o Student is on financial aid suspension at SBC
o Student's Pell grant is not sufficient to pay all education costs at SBC.

Because funds are very limited, students must apply for the Pell grant to have an eligibility determination made. The maximum funding is $1,200 per term but the grant may be more or less based on the number of eligible applicants and funds available to award.
* High School Academic Scholarship. This scholarship is available to the most recent graduating class of high school seniors. To qualify, the applicant must be enrolled in a federally-recognized Indian tribe; must have a minimum 2.75 cumulative high school grade point average; and must enroll full-time at Sitting Bull College in the Fall term following high school graduation. Scholarships range from $800 to $1,600 per academic year and may be received for two academic years. Applications are available at the SBC Financial Aid Office.
* Restricted Scholarships. SBC also receives other financial assistance from the American Indian College Fund which has restrictions placed on the scholarship by the donors. Since the list of donors varies each term, the American Indian College Fund notifies the college of the funding sources each semester funds are sent to SBC. Therefore, students wishing to apply for these funding sources need to check the bulletin boards at the college during the first month of each semester to see what funds are available.
